“I chose a paper crane as my subject in tribute to Sadako Sasaki, a young Japanese girl
who was diagnosed with Leukemia ten years after the atom bomb was dropped on Hiroshima.
She learned of an old Japanese legend which said that anyone who folded 1000 paper cranes
would be granted a wish. Sadako's wish was to get well and be able to run again...
sadly, she passed away in 1955. The paper crane remains a symbol of peace today.”
